Well what a year its been! I just thought I ought to break out the blog to say thank you to all of our amazing customers that have supported us again this year. Without everyone coming to buy trees and decorations we wouldn’t be able to keep growing and improving, but more than that without you all spreading the word on our behalf we wouldn’t have reached out to so many people, so thank you to everyone.
This year we have had so much enjoyment finding everyone their perfect tree, sometimes it’s not easy and it may take a while, but we have always got there. The biggest enjoyment is the laughs with everyone – you don’t find many people unhappy about buying a tree so it has once again been an absolute pleasure to open our doors, everyone has been in such high spirits and ready to have a laugh with us.

One of the main things we laughed with you about was the hotly contested “salesman of the year”, even though there is no commission, no prize and certainly no written tally! I think that the first weekend saw us very much going into the week neck and neck. Through the week however, I (Jack G) stole the lead with some mid-week sales, but a busy weekend and a broken coffee machine Sunday afternoon (which I think was sabotaged) meant that Jack was right back in it! Dad however was on car parking duty which put him way down after the first weekend, a deficit from which I don’t think he ever recovered. Going into the third weekend I was feeling confident, I had my midweek sales and Jack W had dad duties on the Sunday taking Oliver to the football. I thought I was home and dry! Then a week later the roles were reversed with me having the Sunday off putting us back to even Stevens. All of this meaning that we ended with no more of an idea than we did when we started out, I stand by the fact that I sold more trees, though I’m sure if asked Jack W would say he had sold more! Maybe we will have to put it out to a public vote?!?!
Inside however was a much less competitive affair with Mum, Meg and Meg all getting along and helping rather than hindering each other. Showing that maybe there is something to it and maybe Jack and I ought to grow up! They worked tirelessly throughout the weeks and weekends handing out over 30l of mulled-wine and mulled-apple (you thirsty lot), constantly re stocking shelves and making sure that everyone found whatever they needed. While during the week Meg G and Maddy made over 25 wreaths to adorn your front doors, and what a wonderful job they did too!

All in all I think we’ve had another great year, and I can’t say enough how grateful we are for your support. From everyone here at West Hyde we hope that you have an amazing Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
Until then, Jack
